Hello everybody and welcome to the very first blog of Primary 1!
We have only been in school for a few weeks, but boy have we been busy! We have all settled in well to the routines and rules of our classrooms and have had a great time in our House Hubs every Friday.
Literacy
We have already learned 8 sounds; s a t i p n e and c - (though we have also learned that k and ck make the same sound as c). We are now ready to start reading and making simple words by blending these sounds together. Playing 'I spy' to get used to recognising what words start with which sounds is great fun and we have even been out on a 'sound hunt' in the playground.
We have also learned that great writers don't even need to be able to write properly yet - we can be fantastic writers by telling our stories to others and getting adults to help us write things down.
Numeracy
We have been working on our numbers to ten. Counting up and back to/from ten is great fun - and we don't always even have to start at 1. We are getting much better at writing and recognising the digits that represent each number and will keep practising this as we learn to count and sort.
We hope you have enjoyed our first update - keep your eyes peeled for our next one!
Miss Minto, Mrs Strachan and all of the pupils in Primary 1. :)
